And Her Name Is...

Monday, October 28, 2013

To celebrate officially being in my third trimester, we've decided to disclose our Baby Girl's name. Her daddy named her, which I absolutely adore (the name and the guy who picked it).

When we told my family what we had decided to name our daughter, we made them guess. This could have gone terribly, terribly wrong. I've since heard horror stories, so I don't exactly recommend it. However, it did make for some pretty entertaining guesses...

"It starts with an S," I said.
"Think of the show, Lost," Grahm added.
(Please note: Baby Girl is definitely not named for a character in the show that I simply don't understand the phenomenon behind. They're on an island, people. Big whoop.)
After a few seconds of contemplation, my father said, "Sayid?!"

Yes, Dad. That's our daughter's name, Sayid. Makes perfect sense. Eventually we had to tell them because clearly... they're not excellent guessers.
We'll be pronouncing her name exactly how it's spelled, Saw-yer. Not Soy-yer. But I promise to not have a stick up my buns if you get it "wrong." Just don't call my kid Roach, and I think we'll be okay.

My middle name is also Marie. I'm named after my father's mother, Dovie Marie Carper. I'm especially close to this grandmother, and it was really important to me to name one of my children after her. Sawyer is the lucky lady who will share the name of her incredibly wise, loving, and gracious great-grandmother.

So there ya have it, friends. Be kind and remember this post.

We can't wait to meet Sawyer Marie in January only 90 days away!

Sawyer was our choice for a girl name if we had a girl! (We had a boy.) Love it!

Love the name but I'm stuck on your opinion of LOST. I mean, did you WATCH the show? It wasn't just six seasons of them eating bugs and sleeping in tents on an deserted island. haha :) Congrats though.

Such a B-E-A-Utiful name for what's no doubt going to be a B-E-A-Utiful baby girl!! So happy for y'all and can't wait to "meet" little lady in just a few months! :)

Love the name Jena. Its beautifl.

Its not a super popular name (around here anyways), so there won't be a dozen other Sawyers in her class. But its not a trendy out there name either.

And I think its lovely that you gave her a middle name that means so much.

I love Sawyer! We went with Mary for our daughter's middle name, for my husband's grandmother, who we adored. I think it so special to have a family tie in the name.

Makes me think of One Tree Hill (Peyton Sawyer) ;) I love it. Think it's adorable and unique. Also, love how the middle name is a family members. We are doing that too with our little boy. Me and my brothers all have a middle name that belongs to a family member so I wanted to carry along to tradition. Can't wait to finally see some photos of baby Sawyer when she makes her debut!!

Congrats on choosing a name! It feels so real once you know the gender and you can start calling them by name. I'm glad I'm not the only one who shared my name with the world. So many of my friends thought I was crazy, but when it feels right, it's right! So happy for you, momma!

I love it! And I like how you'll be pronouncing it as well (do people really see that and think "Soy-yer"?! :p
I also love how you are able to name her after someone you love. My middle name is named for my Mom's favorite cousin and I've always had a really close bond with that Cousin because of our names. :)

Love it, Jena and Grahm. Never would have pronounced it any other way. Never heard it said as Soy yer. Where is that from? Love the middle name too.

Aww that's neat that you're giving her a family name in there. We had the girl name picked out right away and were using my husband's mothers first name and my grandma's middle name. The boy name has been much more difficult because we aren't too keen on any family names and quite a few are already taken by cousins and such that had kids years ago. And of course I am carrying a little man so we are still trying to figure out if his tentative name will stick. It is amazing how people are able to get the names out of us even after we say we don't want to say it just yet. For now he is Jr. Haha

I love it and that he picked it! Mostly because 1. it reminds me of One Tree Hill (which I was a pretty hardcore fan of) and 2. because KC and I couldn't agree on names for Wyatt to save our lives. So happy and excited for y'all! She's going to be absolutely beautiful just like her name!

Our son's name is Sawyer! (and his name would have been Sawyer if he was a she too!) I grew up playing Tom Sawyer in my my grandparent's yard and reading the book until the pages fell apart so I knew I wanted to use "Sawyer" some day. We get the"like on Lost?" question a lot too haha
